Barclays vs Deutsche Bank: A tale of two mediocrities

The UK and German institutions have had similar battles to fight, but it is Deutsche that has fared worse

Barclays and Deutsche Bank have a lot in common.

As their countries’ investment banking national champions they face many of the same challenges, most obviously the struggle to compete with the increasingly dominant Wall Street giants. And the ousting of their last chief executives followed strikingly similar boardroom battles.
