Basel III: Lobbyists mount 11th-hour challenge as deadline looms

With less than a year to go until banks are hit with new capital rules, the sector is still fighting back against the so-called Basel III endgame.

Global regulators developed the Basel III framework for banks in the wake of the financial crisis, agreeing a final version of the plans in 2017. Dubbed Basel 3.1, they were originally set to go live in 2022, but have been repeatedly pushed back.
