Bats Global Markets on Thursday appointed a former H&R Block executive as its chief financial officer, ahead of a possible initial public offering by the exchange operator.

Brian Schell will lead an expanding financial team that will emphasise international development and capital-raising, with Kansas City-based Bats seen exploring a flotation following its planned acquisition of a rival European platform.
