A senior figure at European private equity giant BC Partners has died.
BC Partners announced on 24 May “the recent and sudden passing” of Max Kastka.
Kastka was a German-based partner at the firm, having joined in 2008 as an associate.
He was promoted to partner last year with a mandate to focus on healthcare, as well as to lead the company’s origination efforts in the DACH region.
It is understood that Kastka died of natural causes.
Previously, he worked in the M&A and leverage finance teams at Goldman Sachs.
His portfolio involvement included Springer Nature, the Berlin-based publishing firm, and Aenova, a provider of product development and manufacturing services for pharma and consumer healthcare customers.
Chair Raymond Svider wrote: "The loss of Max is incredibly personal for us as we are grieving the passing not only of a respected colleague, but an esteemed and long-standing member of our BC family.
"Max was a much-loved and respected leader of the Hamburg office and of the Firm more widely. Part of what made him a great partner to all of us was his integrity and humanity.
"We will honour Max by carrying forward the values and principles he embodied. May his memory be a blessing for his family, for us and for all those who had the good fortune to know him."
The company added: "We are truly devastated to have lost such a valued companion in our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. We will miss him dearly."
