British multi-millionaire Sir John Beckwith is to back a new fund management company, whose chief executive will be James Barham, former head of institutional marketing at Liontrust, a UK equity boutique.

The new operation is likely to take the River & Mercantile brand, used by Liontrust when it was 75% controlled by Beckwith before its float in 1999.
