Bedlam's closure highlights consultants' power

News analysis: as Bedlam Asset Management prepares to close its doors, the power of investment consultants is once again up for debate

The control investment consultants have over the success of boutique fund managers was highlighted again this week as Bedlam Asset Management revealed it would be closing.

Bedlam, which was founded in 2002, confirmed it had no choice but to close after a large investment consultant issued a "sell" notice following the surprise departure of its chief investment officer Ian McCallum to take up a role in Singapore. The company would not name the consultant.
