William Belchere has quit as Merrill Lynch's chief Asian economist to join JP Morgan's Hong Kong office as head of Asian economic and policy research.

Belchere, who joins as a managing director, will also fill the newly created role of Asia research co-ordinator, with responsibility for ensuring the effective integration of research opinions from JP Morgan's Asian research team.
