€6bn Bertlesmann-Sony music merger puts EMI deal in doubt

The joint venture between Bertelsmann and Sony, which will see them merge their music businesses may have derailed EMI's expected $1.7bn bid for Warner Music, the music division of Time Warner.

Sources close to Warner believe the US and European anti-trust authorities will be unwilling to give back-to-back approval for two deals. Bertelsmann and Sony announced their deal on Thursday and are expected to gain clearance first.
