Barclays Global Investors (BGI) has doubled its European exchange traded fund (ETF) assets under management by winning two ETFs that were previously sponsored by Merrill Lynch.

The shift of assets to BGI represents one of the first acts of consolidation in the overcrowded ETF marketplace in Europe.
