Barclays Global Investors (BGI) has appointed Andrew Skirton global chief investment officer for index management.

Skirton, who joined BGI from Legal & General in 1989, will retain his responsibilities in Europe as chief investment officer for both active and passive management operations. But in his new role he takes on global responsibility for indexed operations.
