Barclays Global Investors has hired Stan Beckers, the former chief investment officer of West LB Asset Management, as senior investment strategist for its £30bn (€45bn) European active equity business.

Beckers, a long-time proponent of long/short equity funds, will also be working on new strategies for BGI's range of hedge funds.
