BlackRock has beaten three rivals to take on one of the largest European asset management mandates of the year – a multi-billion deal with Equitable Life.

BlackRock will provide investment and risk management services for Equitable Life's 400,000 policyholders and group scheme members from October this year, according to a statement from the mutual society issued yesterday.
