US buyout giant Blackstone Group has announced the appointment of Joe Baratta, the former head of its European private equity team, as its new head of global private equity. Focus now turns to Lionel Assant, the man widely expected to replace him at the helm of the firm’s European division.

Following on from yesterday's announcement that Baratta will move to New York for his global role, the spotlight now falls on Assant.
