Blackstone hosts a weekly companywide call on Mondays at 8:30 a.m. that typically touches on business initiatives, deals or other happenings at the private-equity firm. This week’s edition broke the mold.

Many workers were returning to the office a week after a gunman stormed the building that houses Blackstone’s headquarters and shot and killed four people, including Wesley LePatner, one of the firm’s top real-estate executives.
