Block trades offer fast track for banks

Accelerated sales are a growth area of ECM activity and provide a quick route up the rankings

While initial public offerings in Europe, the Middle East and Africa have suffered from what one banker called a “lethargic and indifferent” market, accelerated bookbuilds, which involve the placing of new or existing shares with little or no marketing, have got off to a roaring start this year.

For the banks willing to participate in the market, the rewards, and the risks, are high.
