BNP Paribas’s investment bank fuels 16% jump in fourth quarter profit

The French lender has been hiring for its investment bank in recent months as it looks to gain ground on US rivals

A surge in trading revenue at BNP Paribas in the final quarter of the year helped the French lender post a 16% overall profit gain.

The French bank’s chief executive Jean-Laurent Bonnafé said that BNP Paribas’s investment bank was a “powerful growth engine that continues to gain market share” as its trading division posted a 32.4% in the final three months of the year.
