Bonhams, the UK auction house, is putting up for sale a rare example of one of the most iconic aircraft ever built, with a price tag of £1.5m.

The two-seater Supermarine Spitfire, the single seat version of which became the poster-child of the Battle of Britain during World War 2, will go on sale at a special auction held at the RAF Museum in Hendon on 20 April.
