UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called for a general election on December 12, after being forced to abandon his previous pledge to leave the EU on October 31 with or without a deal.

Speaking to the BBC on October 24, Johnson said his government will call a vote in Parliament on October 28 on holding the election. Its success is not assured, since early-election motions require a two-thirds majority to pass — and his administration has no majority at all.
