BP has agreed to shareholder demands to publish more information on its carbon emissions and strategy for reducing them. The group joins a growing list of oil giants obliged to defer to investor pressure on climate change.

Helge Lund, chair of BP, said in a statement on February 1 that the oil group wanted to “advance the energy transition while also growing shareholder value”. Its board has decided to back a shareholder resolution at its next annual general meeting calling for strict new climate change plans and disclosures at the company.
