BP, the UK energy group, is being investigated by US authorities for allegedly manipulating crude oil and gasoline markets.

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission has sent subpoenas to BP and energy traders in the crude oil probe. The investigation focuses on possible manipulation of over-the-counter markets in 2003 and 2004. Officials at BP confirmed the investigations but declined to comment.
