The City of London has given a broad welcome to this morning's announcement of an agreement between the UK and the European Union on Brexit divorce terms, which paves the way for talks to begin on a trade deal.

The progress, which was announced by UK Prime Minister Theresa May and European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker after a morning meeting in Brussels, follows six months of tense negotiations.
