Brexit wranglings spark ‘alarming’ fall in City hiring

The City of London jobs market suffered a "seismic drop" in hiring at the end of last year, as tense negotiations over a Brexit deal with Brussels exacerbated the usual seasonal lull in recruitment.

There was a 52% month-on-month decrease in new job vacancies in the City during December, according to recruitment specialist Morgan McKinley's latest assessment of the jobs market. Year-on-year, the drop was 37%.
