Bridgepoint triples its money on Scottish retailer

Bridgepoint a private equity group, has tripled its money selling Scottish clothing retailer USC to West Coast Capital, the private equity fund headed by UK retail entrepreneur Tom Hunter.

Hunter, best known for his Sports Division chain, which he sold for £290m in 1998, has been behind numerous UK retail bid approaches including Selfridges and House of Fraser. He has a stake in BhS, owned by Philip Green, who is considering a takeover for UK retailer Marks & Spencer.
