Britain ‘immediately and indefinitely’ suspends Hong Kong extradition treaty

The move is the latest part of Britain’s response to the national security law imposed in Hong Kong

Foreign secretary Dominic Raab has “immediately and indefinitely” withdrawn Britain’s extradition treaty with Hong Kong as its dispute with China deepens.

Speaking in parliament on 20 July, Raab also announced that the UK would extend an arms embargo that has applied to mainland China since 1989 to include Hong Kong as well. He described the two measures as a “necessary and proportionate” response to China’s actions in the former British territory.
