Britain’s economy shrinks by a record 19.8%

The UK’s economy contracted by 19.8% in the second quarter, charting a record fall as lockdown measures dampened business activity and consumer appetite for spending.

Gross domestic product data released by the Office for National Statistics on 30 September showed the British economy had declined slightly less than analyst estimates in the three months to the end of June.
