Britannic considers merger partners

Britannic and Merrill Lynch are considering possible merger partners for the besieged UK life assurer that owns investment firm Britannic Asset Management.

Harold Cottam, chairman of Britannic, said the company was looking to grow through strategic partners in what he described as &quotan acceleration of our already stated strategy&quot. Merrill Lynch is Britannic's financial adviser.
