Brookfield given more time to weigh takeover of Intu Properties

As UK-targeted M&A soars, £3bn deal for shopping centre owner remains in play

A consortium including property investment giant Brookfield has been given yet more time to weigh up its near-£3bn offer for a UK shopping centre group.

Intu Properties, which owns shopping centres including the Trafford Centre in Manchester and Lakeside in Essex, said that the UK’s Takeover Panel has granted a third extension to suitors Brookfield, the Olayan Group of Saudi Arabia, and property investor Peel Group, which is chaired by John Whittaker, also deputy chairman of Intu.
