BT to make $700m from satellite mergers

British Telecom stands to raise around $700m (€567m) from this year's mergers between global satellite companies, which have been driven by private equity purchasers.

BT has earned $280m from three private equity-backed buy-outs in the satellite industry, including a $120m windfall for its 4% stake in Intelsat, which transmitted pictures of Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon in 1969.
