Business figures warn banks against profiteering from Covid-19 loans

Lenders should ‘not be charging extortionate amounts’ to borrow when the bank rate is 0.1%, say small business leaders

Business groups want banks to steer clear of unfairly hiking interest rates on loans provided under the UK government’s emergency Covid-19 lending scheme.

The special scheme is designed to aid the SME sector, made up of 5.9 million smaller businesses, which is expected to struggle the most in the coming months.
