The UK’s upcoming general election represents yet another “layer of uncertainty” deterring foreign investment in the country, according to Michael Dobson, chair and former chief executive of Schroders, the fund manager.

But his peer at Standard Life Aberdeen, vice-chair Martin Gilbert, thinks now is the time to buy sterling and unloved UK stocks.
