Buyout firms consider putting eggs in different baskets

Offering services other than buyouts might help firms grow but it doesn’t necessarily make them any better

Diversification away from straightforward buyouts has historically been a strategy dominated by the largest US private equity firms as a means of growing their businesses.

But in recent years European firms have started taking steps of their own: 3i Group is one of several firms to have set up credit platforms, while firms such as EQT Partners and Axa Private Equity have branched out into areas including infrastructure.
