Investment group turns loss into big profit

UK-based Caledonia Investments recorded a pre-tax profit of nearly £300m for the year ended March after notching up a loss of just short of that amount the year before.

Caledonia, which is minority owned by one of the UK wealthiest families, the Cayzers, posted a 31% lift in net asset value, compared with a gain of 47% increase in the FTSE All-Shares Index.
