Anne Stausboll, the first female chief executive of the California Public Employees' Retirement System, is to retire from her role leading the largest US pension fund.

Over her seven-year tenure at the head of the $275 billion fund, Stausboll has overseen dramatic changes to its investment strategy during some of the most volatile financial markets in history.
