Calpers, the California Public Employees' Retirement System, has named Mark Anson as its new chief investment officer after Daniel Szente resigned last month.
Calpers is the world's largest pension scheme. It has assets totalling almost $147bn (€167bn) and provides benefits to more than 1.2 million people. In his new role Anson, 43, will oversee the 130 members of Calpers' investment staff and a portfolio that includes equities, fixed income, real estate, private equity and hedge funds. He will play a leading role selecting investment strategy and asset allocation, and monitoring the fund's external managers.
