Canada’s national pension scheme issues €1bn in green bonds

CPPIB provides a boost for the green bond market, whose breakneck growth stalled last year

Canada’s C$368bn ($279bn) national pension fund has issued its first euro-denominated green bond. This is a rare move among pension funds, as they are usually lenders rather than borrowers.

The €1bn’s worth of 10-year notes will also boost promoters of the green bond market, whose breakneck growth stalled last year.
