George Osborne takes an age with new book

Welcome to FN’s weekly diary column featuring all the best titbits from around the City of London...

Osborne takes an Age
George Osborne is juggling several jobs since he left politics. The former chancellor of the exchequer’s lucrative gigs include being editor of the Evening Standard, chair of the Northern Powerhouse and adviser to BlackRock. Yet one profession that continues to elude him is “author”. Osborne struck a deal in 2016 to write The Age of Unreason, a book its publisher William Collins said would examine the “crisis in democracy and capitalism”. But powerful journalist as he now is, George has missed one critical deadline. Capital hears from publishing sources that The Age of Unreason, for which Osborne was reportedly paid a tidy sum, will not hit the shelves on 1 May as planned.
