Carlyle Africa team to set up standalone business based in Johannesburg and Lagos

The firm will maintain exposure to the continent through other funds including the Carlyle International Energy fund, which closed at $2.5bn in 2015

Four dealmakers from Carlyle’s Sub-Saharan Africa fund (CSSAF) are leaving the private equity group to set up a standalone business.

It is understood that Eric Kump, Idris Mohammed, Genevieve Sangudi and Bruce Steen alongside a core investment team, will launch Alterra Capital Partners, after Carlyle decided not to raise a follow on fund.
