Carlyle and Riverstone close in on Petroplus

Carlyle and Riverstone Holdings, the US private equity duo planning to buy Dutch energy refiner Petroplus, will officially announce their bid for the company by mid-February.

RIVR Acquisition, which represents the buy-out firms and some managers from Petroplus, was forced to sweeten its offer by €1 to €9 per share earlier this month. Previous bids had failed to win the backing of the petrol company's shareholders.
