Hundreds of billions of dollars in swap contracts have traded across new US platforms that opened for business last week, according to a senior derivatives-market regulator.

Roughly $450 billion worth of derivatives linked to interest rates and credit changed hands on 18 so-called swap execution facilities over the new trading venues' initial days of trading, said Scott O'Malia, a CFTC commissioner.
