The chief executive of Atlas Mara, the African banking group set up by former Barclays boss Bob Diamond, is stepping down. The move comes as the group looks to cut costs amid falling profits.

John Vitalo, a former Barclays executive who was appointed as Atlas Mara first CEO in April 2014, stepped down on February 15, the firm said in a statement. A successor will be appointed in due course.
