Charities call for ‘landmark’ responsible investment ruling

Coalition of charities write to the government calling for an 'urgent' legal ruling on whether trustees can prioritise responsible investment over returns

Charity investors in the UK are calling on the government to allow them to prioritise green and responsible investments over financial returns, seeking to put an end to years of confusion over the issue.

The group of 15 charities, including the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and the Sainsbury family’s trusts, has written to the attorney general and the Charity Commission asking them for the “landmark” ruling.
