China has banned direct flights to and from the United Kingdom over fears of a new strain of the coronavirus.

It comes after more than 50 countries have suspended flights from the UK over the past four days as Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the new variant of Covid-19 “may be up to 70% more transmissible than the earlier version of the disease”.
