Chuck Prince's rival leaves the bank

Robert Willumstad, president and chief operating officer of Citigroup, who lost out to Chuck Prince in a 2003 power battle for the post of chief executive, is to leave the bank within three months.

Willumstad had been president since 2002. He gained the additional title of chief operating officer two years ago after Prince was appointed to replace Sanford Weill as chief executive. Weill remained chairman.
