The banking sector has long-provided a steady stream of talent for governments across the world, but as Chuka Umunna's move to JPMorgan shows, it works the other way.

Umunna, who was touted as a potential leader of the UK Labour party, ditched politics last July to take a role at communications giant Edelman as head of its ESG consultancy for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Less than six months later, he has been hired by JPMorgan to lead its ESG banking team.
