CIBC pays $80m fine to settle Enron probe

CIBC, the Canadian commercial bank, has agreed to pay $80m (€61m) to settle charges that it played a role in manipulating financial statements of Enron. Two CIBC bankers have been personally fined a further $600,000.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has charged CIBC and three of its executives with helping Enron mislead its investors by disguising loans as asset sales.
