Cinven has teamed up with WH Smith, the UK bookseller, to buy the book-publishing arm of US media giant AOL Time Warner, the second time in a year that the private equity house has formed a consortium with a strategic buyer.

WH Smith said it would merge AOL Time Warner Book Group, the US business that specialises in consumer books, with its UK publishing business, Hodder Headline, to expand into the US.
