Citigroup closed the fourth-quarter earnings season for Wall Street’s biggest investment banks by posting soaring profits in its institutional clients group on the back of big trading gains.

Citi chief executive Michael Corbat said the bank had a "strong finish to 2016, bringing momentum into this year".
