A top mergers and acquisitions banker from Citigroup will become the next head of the UK's takeover watchdog.

Simon Lindsay, head of UK M&A at Citi, will become director general of The Takeover Panel on July 2, according to a statement from the organisation. He will be on a two-year secondment from the US bank.
