City firms most nervous about hiring since crisis peak

Uncertainty over Brexit is still troubling the Square Mile as hiring slips in the usually busy month of January

City firms most nervous about hiring since crisis peak

Hiring in London's finance sector slumped year-on-year in January, with uncertainty over Brexit pushing City firms to feel the most nervous about recruiting since the peak of the financial crisis.

Despite the usual monthly surge in activity, job vacancies fell by 35% in January compared with a year earlier, according to Morgan McKinley's latest London Employment Monitor. There were also fewer people looking to make a move — with that figure down 27% year-on-year.
