City hiring slumps with businesses stuck in a Brexit ‘stranglehold’

New City job vacancies fell to their lowest level so far this year last month with financial services firms "stuck in limbo" over Brexit, according to the latest employment update from Morgan McKinley.

There was a 14% month-on-month decrease in new job vacancies in October, the recruiter's London Employment Monitor showed, marking a 20% fall from the same point a year ago. With just 6,300 new vacancies in the finance sector, October was even quieter than August — when activity typically winds down over the summer — when 6,885 new jobs came to the market.
